Shivani’s jewellery comprises wearable, precious art. Working exclusively with precious metals, each piece is completely hand crafted. Her work uses the Korean technique of ‘Keum-boo’ involving fusing pure gold foil to the surface of silver. Designs and ideas are continually evolving as focus increases on working with rich and varying alloys of gold and unusual cuts of semi-precious stones. Research stems from observational drawings of plant structures and their variety of intense surface detail. These drawings are then manipulated and developed into precise and delicate designs. Metal surfaces are given subtle textures as emphasis is placed on aesthetic value and high level of craftsmanship. It is important that a balance exists between form and decoration; simple forms are complimented with complex embellishment. All pieces are saw pierced by hand, reflecting Shivani’s fine drawings and reinforcing the importance of the hand made object.
